In order to fulfill its mission of promoting art throughout West Virginia, and sharing art with communities throughout the state, the West Virginia Division of Culture and History will present the West Virginia Juried Exhibition for the first time at the Huntington Museum of Art.

This biennial exhibition, organized by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History has been showcasing the work of the state’s best artists since 1979. This presentation will be the 15th exhibition and will feature paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, photography, and mixed media pieces, as well as works created by artists working in traditional craft media.
This exhibition features $33,000 in awards made available by the West Virginia Commission on the Arts of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History through funds appropriated by the West Virginia Legislature. The following awards will be presented: Three $5,000 Governor’s Awards (Purchase Awards) – one of which will be designated the D. Gene Jordan Memorial Award; Seven $2,000 Awards of Excellence (Purchase Awards); and Eight $500 (Merit Awards).
The jurors this year were Julie Taggart, Professor, Dean, Fine Arts and Foundation Studies, Columbus College of Art and Design, Columbus, Ohio; and Vince Torano, Associate Professor of Fine Art, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
One hundred and ninety-seven artists submitted entries for the exhibit, and the jurors selected 90 works for the show. In the spirit of collaboration, staff from the State Museum will travel to Huntington to arrange and assist with the installation of the exhibition.
