This event didn't seem to get promoted very thoroughly, but seems like a very relevant event happening this Friday in Charleston:
Friday: West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin III and Charleston Mayor to Join
Administration Officials at National Broadband Forum in West Virginia
WASHINGTON - Tomorrow, the Department of Commerce's National
Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Department
of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS) will hold one of ten
nationwide public broadband grant and loan workshops in Charleston, W.Va.
The workshops are designed to help prospective applicants learn how to apply
for the first round of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding aimed
at expanding broadband access to bridge the technological divide and helping
to create jobs building Internet infrastructure. Last week, Vice President
Biden announced the availability of $4 billion in Recovery Act loans and
grants to help bring broadband service to unserved and underserved
communities across America.
West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin III and Charleston Mayor Danny Jones will
join USDA Under Secretary Cheryl Cook and NTIA Chief of Staff Tom Power in
making opening remarks. Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.) will also
provide pre-recorded remarks. Attendees may pre-register for the event
online at www.broadbandusa.gov or register at the event.
