WV COMPANY WINS TELLY AWARDS

The Walkabout Company of Wheeling recently received two Telly Awards for humor and lighting design for commercial production as well as two Videography Awards for commercials produced for the Wheeling Convention and Visitor's Bureau. WV FILMMAKER'S SHORT FILM WINS MORE AWARDS
A short drama, "The Paradigm Shift", written and produced by West Virginia native Sam Holdren, has won another award, this time grabbing the Best Short Film at the Rappahannock Independent Film Festival in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Upcoming screenings include the Route 66 Film Festival in Springfield IL, the Charlotte Film Festival in NC, and the West Virginia Filmmakers Festival in Sutton WV (Oct. 3). For more info, visit www. AUDITIONS — AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS — September 30 (Pittsburgh)
American Eagle Outfitters is seeking talented actors/actresses (18 years of age and over) for a training mini-series that will begin production in October. WEST VIRGINIA FILMMAKERS FESTIVAL — October 2 – 4 (Sutton)
The 10th annual West Virginia Filmmakers Festival kicks off Friday, October 2 and continues through Sunday, October 4 in Sutton. Screenings will take place at the Landmark Studio for the Arts as well as the Elk Theater (both on Main Street). The juried festival will screen nearly 30 films of varying lengths and genres and will also include a live performance by the Carpenter Ants. There are plenty of networking opportunities for the audience to talk with visiting filmmakers and others working in West Virginia's film industry. The awards ceremony, including presentation of the 2009 WV Filmmaker of the Year award, will be held Sunday at 1:30 pm at La Dolce Vita. Individual screening blocks are available at $5 and a weekend festival pass is only $15. The annual meeting of the West Virginia Filmmakers Guild will be held Saturday, October 3 at 10:00 am at La Dolce Vita, 400 Fourth Street, Sutton. The meeting is open to anyone (regardless of membership) who has an interest in supporting and further developing West Virginia's film and media industries. Whether you are an industry leader, a crafts person, an educator, or a student with a video camera, you are encouraged to attend this meeting and take part in a very important conversation about the future of the Guild and its role in the state's film and media industries. TODAY SHOW's "KID REPORTER CONTEST" — October 7 entry deadline
Do you know someone between the ages of 8 and 12 who has what it takes to sit in one of The TODAY Show chairs and report the news? The TODAY Show is looking for kids who want to be a reporter and is conductin g a Kid Reporter Contest. Contestants must submit an original video (no longer than 1 minute) of a new report, topic, or story of their choosing on or before October 7. All submissions require an entry form which a parent or legal guardian must complete and sign (entries will be accepted by mail only). ATTENTION FILMMAKERS — NATIONAL FILM CHALLENGE — October 22 entry deadline
The National Film Challenge (the 48 Hour Film Project's sister competition) is coming October 23-26 and registration is now open through October 22. The number of teams is limited to 300 and registration is on a first come first served basis. Teams can be anywhere from 1 person to 30 or more people. Regardless of where you live, this is your opportunity to write, shoot, and edit a short film in three days. Just like in the 48 Hour Film Project, you'll receive a character, prop, line of20dialogue, and a genre at 7:00pm local time, October 23. Then, you'll have to mail the film in on October 26. In the subsequent weeks, the top films (determined by a national panel of judges) will be available for viewing (and voting) on the NFC website. The winning films will screen with the 48 Hour Film Project City Winners at the next Filmapalooza at the NAB Show (the 48 Hour Film Project's end of year event). OPEN CASTING CALLS — ACTORFEST — October 24 (NYC)
Registration is open to participate in Backstage's annual ActorFest in New York City on October 24. Open casting calls have been announced with NBC/Universal, Telemundo, Nickelodeon, and TeenNick (more to be announced). Two dozen workshops will also be given by top casting directors, agents and managers. With the purchase of any workshop, you will be eligible to participate in "Meet & Drop" sessions with top casting directors and get face-to-face time (as time permits; not guaranteed). CALL FOR ENTRIES:  WEBBY AWARDS — October 30 early deadline
The 14th annual Webby Awards is seeking entries for the "Internet's Top Honor" for the year's best online videos in more than 25 film/video categories, including Best Online Comedy, Best Individual Performance, and Best Viral Video. The early deadline is October 30. “The Webby Awards gives winners – from desktop video artists to network producers t o acclaimed actors and directors – a chance to shine in the global Webby spotlight,” said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. (Last year, nearly 10,000 entries were received.) Nominees will be announced in April 2010, and winners will be honored at a ceremony in New York City on June 14, 2010. CALL FOR ENTRIES — PARE LORENTZ FILM FESTIVAL — November 1 deadline
The 2009 Pare Lorentz Film Festival is seeking entries in the categories of Feature Film, Screenplay, Documentary, and Short Film (10 min. or less). Entry fees are waived for the 2009 festival (but will be implemented in 2010). Deadline to submit entries if November 1.
