Kudos to State Journal for New Economy Coverage

If you read the typical West Virginia newspaper's business section or listen to the local TV news, you might be hard-pressed to find a reason to believe that the "new" economy - industries built on innovation, creativity and intellectual property - is thriving in our great state. Many traditional media outlets seem fixated on traditional industries and issues. While many of those stories are still very important to most West Virginians, these media outlets are missing a great new story about the emergence of 21st Century West Virginia business.

This week's State Journal, the statewide buisness journal for West Virginia published by WV Media Holdings, is chock full of new economy and creative community development coverage. Here are just a few of the items worth noting in this week's edition:

Additional stories in the print edition that aren't posted online yet:

  • Pastor Sees Housing as Piece of Development Puzzle
  • Protea Biosciences' Product Assists in Protein Analysis
  • Bluefield Students Design Real-Life Software
  • Da-Tech Goes "New School" in Plant Operation
  • Report Touts Benefits of Contemporary American Theater Festival

It's great to see comprehensive coverage of the segment of the U.S. and West Virginia economy that is poised for long-term growth. If you're interested in seeing more local coverage of interesting creative community and new economy developments, you might want to write your editor a letter asking for it.
