The historic inauguration of Barack Obama reinforces so much of what America is about, or has claimed to be about but hadn't yet fulfilled.
It certainly reminds us of the power of impossible dreams. Who just a year ago would have predicted an African American with a name like Barack Obama becoming president of the United States?
Sometimes it's hard to dream. Many African Americans expressed hesitation early on about Barack Obama, tentative to place their faith in him because of doubts that America was ready for a black president. As evidence to the contrary built, confidence and momentum grew.
For many West Virginians, it's also hard to dream. Too many examples of dreams dashed. Too many years of economic stagnation. Too many crooked political deals that helped a few but left out the many.
But for those willing to take a risk and lead others towards a dream in your community - whatever your politics - there is the example of Barack Obama.
